Leatherstocking Decorative Artists

What is Decorative Painting?
Decorative painting is a diverse art form utilizing a variety of techniques and media
(types of paint) to decorate functional and non-functional surfaces. Because of
certain teaching methods used in learning how to paint -- decorative painting is a
really easy art form to learn. The use o patterns  created by other artists and
freehand designs allow a high degree of success without long years of academic
       training or inherent drawing ability.

Kathy Van Horne - Members Only Seminar....

Sat. Oct 5th, 2019

So excited for everyone to take my Pumpkin Berry Thicket project Saturday October 5th! I need sign ups as soon as possible to we have time to prep the surface at the next meeting and to order pencils if you need any. Final sign ups needed at the next meeting. I will be sending around a sign up sheet at the meeting, however if you won't be there then I need for you to email me at [email protected] or call/text 585-746-9421.

Also it is very important that you have the correct colors of colored pencils for the class to make your project look like the original. It is very important that you use Prismacolor Premier colored pencils. Some can be purchased at local craft stores, however some need to be special ordered. If you are in need of any of these pencils you can order them from me. I need to determine the final cost, but they will be approximately $1.30/pencil where I get them. You can order all of the pencils from me or just a few individually if you want. I must have the pencil order in by the next meeting as well. This is a super fun technique that I know you'll love! We use the pencils to act like floating so you don't need an angle brush! I will provide the paint so make sure you bring all your standard painting supplies (brushes, water basin ect) I will provide the pattern at the next meeting. Thank you! Please feel free to contact me with questions.

Seminar General Information

What: Our Chapter holds two "Travel Teacher" seminars per year. One in the spring and one in the fall.  We bring in nationally and internationally known decorative artists to conduct 2 day painting seminars for our members.   Both members and non-LDA members are welcome to attend.  This is a really great service that the chapter offers to painters for a really inexpensive cost!

Surfaces:  All surfaces that you paint on for the seminar are your responsibility to find and pay for.  Usually the teachers don't have particular items that you have to paint on so any surface that fits the pattern will work.  If there is a specific piece that must be ordered the chapter may take the lead and order surfaces for prepaid orders.

Cost:  The price of attending one of our seminars is a reasonable $35 per day that you attend.  Non-LDA members must pay an additional $10/day fee ($45 per day total).  This fee covers your instruction from the teacher and the pattern packet.   All fees must be paid in advance with your registration to the seminar. Occasionally the fee might be slightly more depending on specifics of the seminar.

Time:  All seminars are held on Saturdays & Sundays  from 9am - 5pm.

Lunch:  Attendees bring their own lunch.  People often bring "goodies" to share too.

Questions?   If you have any questions on upcoming seminars please contact our Seminar Chair, Lory  by email:  [email protected]
